in CHA Summer Show,Reviews

As we reported earlier from the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) Summer trade show, the winner of the most innovative product as selected by the panel of judges from the media is the hot product from Rocky Mountain Ventures. The Flip-Pal has received a lot of buzz in the memory keeping community.

The Flip-Pal is a cool little portable scanner. Think small, but mighty.
Instead of bringing the photos to the scanner, you simply bring the scanner to the photos. There is no need for me to rip apart my grandmother’s old heritage albums to scan photographs for the entire family.   My mom will really love that!

For scrapbookers, you will love it because of its high quality scans. You can very easily scan a 12 by 12 layout by using their stitching software (included). This makes it so easy to share layouts in the galleries of your favorite message boards, or even submit for publication. If you are seriously thinking about taking your scrapbooking to the next level, I would highly recommend this essential tool. I am strongly recommending it all of my creative friends that are on design teams.

Great questions:

  • Do you need a computer to enjoy the Flip-Pal? No, you don’t have to have a computer.  The Flip-Pal uses a SD card for storing digital images.   You can use the SD card with photo kiosks, digital frames, and so much more.
  • Do I need a Power cord? No.  The Flip-Pal is powered by 4 AA batteries, which is included.   I would recommend rechargeable batteries.
  • Can I scan a 12 x 12 layout? Yes!  This is one of the features I am most excited about.  With the stitching program that is included, it has never been easier to scan in your layouts and share with others.
  • How accurate are the scans? The scans are high-resolution and the color-retention is amazing.   600 to 300 dpi resolution settings.
  • How easy is it to use, really? The see-through window makes it easy to see what you are scanning.
  • When is it expected to ship? They are predicting initial shipments early October 2010.
  • What kind of warranty? Included with purchase is a one year limited warranty.
  • Are there other uses other than scanning photographs? You can scan 3 dimensional items too.  I am hoping to document some of my valuables for insurance purposes.   It would be great for jewelry or even coin collections.
  • How expensive is it? Just $149.99   At this price with all these features, you can hardly go wrong.

Flip-Pal is currently only available through their own website.

They are taking pre-orders at this time and the first 100 orders before August 16th receive a free (additional) 2 GB SD card.
Just $149.99

My favorite video demonstrating the Flip-Pal is from Amy Coon at The Paper Life.
